LearnWorlds features an Interactive Video Editor with advanced functionalities and a convenient sidebar menu, allowing you to easily add elements like subtitles to your videos.

In this article, we will explore how to auto-generate or upload subtitles to your course videos and see useful tips and considerations. Adding subtitles is crucial as it enhances accessibility, improves viewer comprehension, and caters to a broader audience, including those with hearing impairments.

To autogenerate (available in Learning Center plans or higher) and upload subtitles (available in Pro trainer plans or higher):

1. Select a course and navigate to the Course outline

2. Hover over the video learning activity and click on Edit video.

3. Click on Subtitles in the sidebar.

4. Subtitles can be uploaded from your device or autogenerated based on the language of the video.

Autogenerate

Click on Autogenerate, select the language of the video (since the autogenerate option is only available for the video's language), and click on Transcribe. The process may take a few minutes.

Upload subtitles

Click on Select .srt file, add the file, and click on Upload .srt. You may also use this option to upload several multilingual subtitles.

  • You can have one subtitle .srt file per language uploaded at any given time.
  • Make sure that the filename does not contain any special characters (characters like â, è, ü, etc are not supported).

Once ready, subtitles should be proofread (since the whole process is automated by the system, proofreading will help to better the syntax and grammar of the text). When you are ready, ensure to turn it to Public, to appear in the video player.

Subtitles’ text can be edited (cloned, formatted with the help of the main top bar, and then refreshed, which will remove all the formatting), replaced, downloaded, deleted, and you can also generate a transcript out of them.

In the course player, users will be able to choose the language (from the ones provided by you) or completely turn them off.

The Course Player retains a user's selected subtitle choice across all videos, ensuring consistency in subtitle choices for each video.
